Our sessions are very rarely cancelled but in extreme weather conditions either the venue may choose to close the pitch on the grounds of safety or FFF may choose to cancel the session. If a rep arrives at a session and the venue is not safe, or the conditions aren't safe, the rep also has discretion to cancel the session.
We don't offer refunds for weather cancellations. Our pricing is based on 48 weeks of football each year, and we allow for public holidays and weather cancellations in that pricing. You may get lucky and have no cancellations in a year!
Our sessions are most commonly cancelled due to snow or ice on the pitches. This affects both 2G and 3G surfaces and can make the surfaces treacherous to play on. Usually the venue will cancel the session in advance in there is a significant amount of snow or ice on the pitch with no prospect of it thawing for our session.
Sessions are rarely cancelled due to heavy rain but even astro pitches can become waterlogged if there is a high volume of rain in a short space of time. Pitches that are poorly maintained or where players have worn the wrong footwear over a long period of time stand a higher chance of a cancellation.
Wind and storms are not usually a reason to cancel a session but periodically a storm will be sufficiently strong that there may be flying debris or debris on the pitch. In these circumstances we may cancel a session to avoid injury or to allow the pitch to be cleared.
If there is thunder and lightning a floodlit pitch is not a bad place to be, lightning should strike the floodlights rather than the players! However, if there is significant lightning in close range of a session then we may cancel a session. If a session is already in progress then it may be appropriate to pause and take cover. In this instance the decision sits with the rep.
We know that people love our sessions and it is frustrating when sessions are cancelled. It is more often than not outside our control. If a venue is open then generally we will run a session, but if we deem the risk of injury or harm too great then we will cancel. If that happens please respect the venue, the rep or the FFF colleagues that have made that decision. They won't have made the decision lightly and put pressure on them to change their decision isn't helpful.
